Child Rights Unit: Book Launch

01.12.2016 21:00 - English

LawTransform presents: Presentation of Child Rights Unit and Book Launch with Marit Skivenes, UiB.

In the wake of the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989, normative, legal and empirical research questions have arised. The Convention formally places children on an equal level as adults. However, the rise of children’s rights have brought on questions, especially in regards to the traditional relationship between the family and the state, as well as the child and the state.

Professor
Marit Skivenes (UiB) will discuss her research on children’s rights and present the highly relevant book “Child Welfare Removals by the State: A Cross-Country Analysis of Decision-Making Systems”, which she has co-edited. In addition, Associate Professor and Lawtransforms Co-Director Malcolm Langford (UiO), Professor

Karl Harald Søvig (UiB) will present their research. Pascual Strømsnæs (Amnesty Student Group Bergen) will talk about the work of Amnesty’s local student group, as well as the international organization’s efforts in regards to Children’s Rights.

Other highly relevant experts will contribute to this evenings programme (which will soon be announced).

This seminar is launching the new research unit on Child Rights at the Centre on Law and Social Transformation.

Finger-food and drinks will be served and there will be plenty of time for mingling. The event is free of charge and open to all.
