#MeToo — Implications for Criminal Law?

03.10.2018 12:30 - English

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Tatjana Hörnle (Humboldt University of Berlin)

UiB’s research group on Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the Faculty of Law is hosting its eighth annual Bergen Lecture in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice.

This year’s lecture is given by Prof. Dr. Tatjana Hörnle from the Humboldt University of Berlin and is titled
#MeToo – Implications for Criminal Law?

The first part of the lecture is devoted
to a critical analysis of the #MeToo-movement as a
mechanism of social control. The second part covers
implications for the criminal law. At present,
legislatures in several countries have reformed their
laws on sexual offenses, which was necessary in order
to protect individuals’ right to sexual autonomy. The
emphasis for the lecture
is not on details of these positive laws but on
conceptual questions as the foundation for law reform,
for instance the difference between a „No means
No“-model and a „Only Yes means Yes“-model.”

The Bergen Lecture in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice is an annual lecture given at the Faculty of Law, University of Bergen, by a distinguished international expert.

The lecture is free and open to all.
